Corporate Board Directorship Program

Board service can be a satisfying and rewarding way for accomplished executives and professionals to make significant contributions to an organization.

The overall purpose of this program is to provide senior executives who have an interest in sitting on one or more corporate boards with a process for effectively finding the Board position(s) that are right for them.  Our program is focused on providing highly personalized assessment, individualized guidance, and structure to the executive to efficiently navigate the process for finding Board positions and effectively position him/her to be a viable Director candidate.  It also includes an extensive educational component where clients are exposed to current topics, issues, and roles that are timely and relevant for excellent board service.

We work closely with our clients to help them unlock potential board opportunities by:

  • determining whether, on what terms, and with what type of company to pursue a Board Director position
  • identifying and understanding the rewards, risks, roles, and responsibilities of board participation
  • exposing them to the full range of board possibilities
  • providing a roadmap and individualized resources for finding and preparing to serve in board positions
  • staying current on today's board governance issues
  • discovering and articulating the value they bring to a board
  • positioning themselves as desirable director candidates
  • making the best decisions on offers they receive

Features of the Corporate Board Directorship Program:

What Clients Have to Say

"In life and work, preparation is always the key to success.  For me, the New Directions Board Directorship Program provided the training I needed.  I can say without reservation that New Directions prepared me for my first Board seat, enabling me to contribute at a higher level than I otherwise might have."

-- Current COO of a private technology manufacturing company who landed the role as a result of his noteworthy performance as a director on that same company's board

"The New Directions Board Directorship Program is leading edge.  In addition to the valuable one-on-one coaching services to support your campaign to obtain a board seat, they host monthly workshops with guest speakers, collectively delivering a strong program of board education and addressing topical issues such as executive compensation, the impact of Dodd-Frank and the intregration of IFRS and GAAP accounting policies."

-- Former President of a national bank who has assembled a portfolio of corporate, not-for-profit and advisory board work that complements some active investment activities

"I have enjoyed the workshops and guest speakers of the Board Program.  Not only do you meet and hear from executives who have been on Boards themselves, you see the thought process they go through in selecting new Board members and get a better understanding of the risks associated with being on a Board.  Additionally, you get to network with peers who are also considering whether a Board seat is what they would like to pursue next in their career."

-- Former CEO of a software company, already a director of two companies, who chose to get educated on the nuances of board service to be a more effective director
