Within Careers
Most of our clients land employment either in the same field or a new one, in full-time jobs and in new business ventures, consulting, corporate board directorships or nonprofit leadership. New Directions’ proven, comprehensive action plan and networking resources quickly move clients along the path to the right opportunity. New Directions is a powerful networking community. The merged, high-level networks of the company, our loyal alums and clients create a shared resource that often lands clients in their next work opportunity. The portfolio vision guides our career services as well. Why? A Life Portfolio is not only a personal design to live fully beyond careers. It is also being aware of our broad, evolving goals in the backs of our minds during careers. It is a lifelong process of self-examination to evaluate whether present endeavors match who we are and what we care about. Developing this awareness early in life does more than ease the transition after careers end. It enhances the ability to make excellent choices at every stage of life. With a Life Portfolio perspective, you have what you need in facing an immediate career transition—and the next one down the line. That’s why we say that careers have a shelf life, but a Life Portfolio is ageless. And it’s why our career services do not depend on any age or stage of life. The portfolio perspective trains you to take responsibility and seize the initiative in mapping your career. This is necessary in today’s business world. The linear, one-company career model is over. Business executives and professionals must be increasingly nimble, self-directed and flexible to handle the riptide of change in every business field at every level. New Directions’ goal is to achieve outcomes that satisfy our clients’ near-term needs while advancing their long-term work and life goals. In addition to our main business employment program, clients can elect to pursue programs in special fields. Designed by experts, these programs focus on entrepreneurial ventures, consulting, board directorships and nonprofit endeavors. For more information, see SERVICES. All our services include an in-depth assessment for clients to help identify personal assets, values, goals and dreams. We help them sort out the results of their assessment with rational decision-making tools and with the guidance of emotion and gut instinct. Finally, we are personally committed to our clients. They come from New England and across the country, and from corporate and professional fields including banking, law, medicine, marketing and accounting. They also come from academia, foundations, public service and professional sports. We also support clients’ families. We engage their spouses and partners in our work and give guidance to adult children starting their careers. Transition resources are available to all alumni at a limited fee for the rest of their working lives. |
